Moving day disaster at River Bend? Not on my watch.

The call came in around 10 AM on a Tuesday. I could hear the stress in her voice immediately.

Moving company had just shown up at her house in River Bend. They looked at the basement — old treadmill, some paint cans, a broken dehumidifier, miscellaneous junk — and said nope, not our problem, we don't touch that. Moving day is already one of the most stressful days of someone's life and this woman now had a crew standing around and a pile of stuff nobody would take.

I told her: relax, we're coming.

The River Bend Problem Nobody Talks About

River Bend is beautiful. Also, the roads are narrow and winding in a way that a big truck does not enjoy. We squeezed through, found the house, and went straight to the basement.

The treadmill was old but not broken — we got it out and it ended up donated. The paint cans were the actual issue. Here's something worth knowing: we can't legally haul paint. It's hazardous waste. But we can tell you exactly where to take it — Fairfax County has a free hazardous waste drop-off at the I-66 transfer station, and it's genuinely easy.

We cleared everything we could take in about 40 minutes. The moving crew was waiting. The owner looked like she'd just been told the dentist appointment was cancelled.

"I could cry," she said.

"That's fine," I said, "but we're good, you can keep it together."

She laughed. She also gave us coffee, which was appreciated.

The takeaway

If you're moving and you have stuff the moving company won't touch — call us before moving day, not the morning of. We can almost always do same-day in Great Falls, but morning calls are stressful for everyone. Give us a day's notice if you can.
