A young Reston couple, a quartz countertop, and quotes that came back close on price — but not on the calendar.
By Ahmet (Matt) Uslu · November 2026
The couple had just closed on a house in Reston. Their plan was simple: redo the kitchen first, then move in. The old kitchen — white cabinets, a gray subway-tile backsplash and a quartz countertop — had to come out before anything new could go in.
They sent us the details last week and got our quote. Then they did what careful homeowners do: they called around.
Before — cabinet doors already off, countertop and backsplash still in place.
The other quotes came back close to ours, so price wasn’t what separated us. The calendar was. Every other company they talked to offered a date roughly 8 weeks out.
Waiting two months for demolition would have pushed back every step after it — and their move-in date along with it. We could have come the very next day, but since they confirmed at the last minute, we put them on the first open slot on our calendar: two days later.
Most kitchen tear-outs are straightforward. This one had two things that slowed us down, and both are worth knowing about if you’re planning your own remodel.
First, the range hood was still connected — nobody had disconnected it yet, so we did. We also shut off the water before touching the sink and countertop. It’s a small step, but it’s the difference between a clean demo and a wet floor.
Second, the countertop was quartz. It looks great and it’s tough, but it’s heavy — much heavier than laminate — and it has to be lifted, carried through the house and loaded without catching a door frame on the way. That’s slow, careful work, and it’s a big part of why the job ran about four hours. The one thing in our favor: the kitchen was on the main floor, so there were no stairs to carry the slab down.
After — bare drywall, swept floor, appliances left in place.
When we left, the cabinets, countertop and backsplash were gone, the walls were down to bare drywall and the floor was swept. The fridge, range and dishwasher stayed where they were.
For a couple trying to turn a newly bought house into a home, the real win wasn’t a lower number on a quote. It was getting about eight weeks of their schedule back. If you’re planning a remodel and the quotes come back close, ask one more question: when can you actually start?
Kitchen debris removal — from $399. The demo is already done and everything is on the ground floor with easy access.
Full kitchen demolition — from $899. A small ground-floor kitchen with the water and electrical already disconnected and no extra difficulty.
The price goes up with stairs or tight access, more cabinets, heavier countertops like quartz or granite, backsplash removal, appliance removal and anything still connected. Fill out the kitchen quote form with the details and photos and we’ll call you back with a firm price — under our Price-Lock Promise, the price we quote is the price you pay.

Cabinets, countertops and backsplash out — on your schedule, not in 8 weeks.

— Mozhan Sh · Herndon, VA · Google ReviewMany remodeling and demo crews schedule kitchen tear-outs as part of larger renovation projects, so their calendars often fill weeks ahead. We schedule kitchen demolition like any other junk removal job — the Reston couple in this story was offered dates about 8 weeks out elsewhere and had their kitchen done with us two days after confirming.
This Reston kitchen — cabinets, a quartz countertop and a tile backsplash on the main floor — took about four hours, including disconnecting the range hood and shutting off the water. Quartz adds time because the slab is heavy and has to be carried out carefully.
Yes, comparing is smart — just compare start dates along with prices. In this case the quotes were close; what decided it was who could actually do the work that week.
That’s up to you. On this job the fridge, range and dishwasher stayed in place. If you’re replacing them, we can haul the old ones away in the same visit.
