A Call From the Road
Matthew is a pilot, so he's not always home. When he called me, he was traveling. He explained the situation quickly: a landscaping company had just trimmed the trees in his front yard in Potomac Station, but they hadn't taken the branches with them. Now there was a long pile of cut limbs and leaves stretched across his lawn, right next to the sidewalk, in full view of the whole street.
He sent me the details, I gave him a price over the phone, and we set it up for the next day. That was the whole booking process.
What the landscapers left behind — trimmed branches across the front lawn.
Why the Branches Were Still There
This happens all the time. A lot of tree trimming and landscaping crews price the job for cutting only. Hauling the branches away means more time, more trailer space, and dump fees, so the debris gets left on the lawn for the homeowner to deal with. The trees look great — and the yard looks worse than before.
💡 Tip Before You Hire a Tree Trimmer
Ask whether haul-away is included in the quote. If it isn't, you'll have a brush pile on your lawn the next day. If that happens, a photo and a phone call to us is all it takes.
The Next Day
When I got there, I started by cutting the long limbs down to a size that would load cleanly into the trailer. Then everything went in, pile by pile, until the lawn was clear. One funny moment: when I first walked up, I thought someone was standing in the front garden watching me. It turned out to be a garden statue. I'll admit it got me for a second.
After the big branches were gone, I raked up the leaves and small twigs and swept the sidewalk. That last part matters. A yard isn't really clean if there's a trail of leaves where the pile used to be.

He mentioned that he and his wife were both happy with the result — and that I cleaned up afterward. For a front-yard job, that cleanup is what the neighbors see. It's the difference between "the branches are gone" and "the yard looks good again."

Frequently Asked Questions
It's more common than people think. Many tree trimming and landscaping crews quote only for the cutting. Hauling and disposal cost them extra time, trailer space, and dump fees, so the branches get left in a pile on the lawn. If you're hiring a trimmer, ask up front whether haul-away is included — and if it isn't, we can handle that part.
Yes. Matthew called us from out of town. We confirmed the details by phone, did the job the next day, and he didn't need to be there. As long as the pile is reachable from the yard or driveway, you can be anywhere.
Often the next day. Matthew called one day and the branches were gone the following day. Same-day service is sometimes possible too, depending on our schedule.
Yes. After the big branches are loaded, we rake and pick up the leaves and small pieces left on the lawn and sweep the sidewalk. Matthew mentioned the cleanup in his review — it's the part people notice most.
By volume. A small pile starts at $149, and bigger piles are priced by how much trailer space they fill. Send a photo of your pile and you'll get one firm price that includes cutting, loading, haul-away, and cleanup.
